Planning Board Defers Vista Application for New Hospital
Vista’s Lindenhurst hospital would be first new hospital in Lake County in more than 30 years

Waukegan,  IL, 7/1/08--Today the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board deferred voting on Vista Health System’s plan to build a new three-story hospital in Lindenhurst.

“We respect this process and look forward to presenting our plans again at a future meeting,” said Barbara J. Martin, president of Vista Health System. “We believe this Lindenhurst hospital is needed to improve access to health care for the residents of Northwest Lake County.”

Vista is proposing to develop a comprehensive health system, improving accessibility to all residents in the county it already serves. Vista Medical Center Lindenhurst will be 215,000 square feet, and will offer: full radiology services; comprehensive diagnostic imaging; a cardiac catheterization lab; surgery services with four operating suites; and a modern emergency room, designed with patient care, comfort and satisfaction in mind.

“We appreciate that the Board is thoroughly reviewing additional information we submitted on May 7, upon their request. Board members want what’s right for Lake County, as we do,” said Martin. “As the health care landscape of Lake County changes, we look forward to bringing the residents in our communities the first new hospital in the county in almost 30 years.”

Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West, located in Waukegan, serve approximately three times more Medicaid beneficiaries in Lake County than all other area hospitals.

The Planning Board unanimously approved the 60,000-square-foot Vista Lindenhurst Medical Office Building in January of this year. The $15 million medical office building will complement Vista Surgery Center at the corner of Grand Avenue and Deep Lake Road in Lindenhurst.

Vista Health System is a network of two hospitals, Vista Medical Center East and Vista Medical Center West; a stand-alone same day surgery and treatment center; and several locations for imaging and patient therapy. Though the names have changed, Vista East has served the community since 1891 and Vista West has served the community since 1929, close to 200 combined years.
