Patient Condition Guidelines
Vista Health System is responsible for protecting the privacy and confidentiality of patients and their health information. Requests from any and all media representatives are to be directed to the Director of Marketing and Public Relations.

All requests must contain the patient's first and last name. Information about the condition of an inpatient, outpatient or emergency department patient may be released only if the inquiry specifically contains the patient's first and last name.

As long as the patient has not requested that information be withheld, the hospital spokesperson may release the patient's one-word condition. These terms are:

  • Undetermined - Patient awaiting physician and assessment
  • Good - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
  • Fair - Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but my be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
  • Serious - Vitals signs my be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
  • Critical - Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

At no time can the media contact patients directly while they are in the hospital. Instead, the media should be directed to request an interview through the Marketing and Public Relations Director. The hospital may deny access to the media if it has been determined that the presence of photographers and/or reporters would aggravate the patient's condition or interfere with patient care.

Media Visits to Vista Health System Facilities
News crews are welcome to set up for live shots or film on the sidewalks across the street from Vista Health facilities at any time. As a courtesy, however, we ask you to notify the Community Relations Department beforehand. Please do not interfere with patient or ambulance access to any entrance. Once inside the facility, all media must be escorted by a member of the Community Relations staff at all times when on assignment.

Members of the media are required to notify the Community Relations Department before coming to our facility. While on Vista Health System grounds, media must be accompanied by a Community Relations staff member because of patient confidentiality concerns. Media credentials must be clearly displayed at all times for security reasons.

Please remember that Vista Health System facilities are private property. For the protections of our patients and families, the Vista Health Security Department strictly enforces the visitor policy and retains the right to determine admittance to the facility.

On-site Filming
Vista Health System occasionally receives requests by production crews to film using surgery, nursing units or other health care environments as a backdrop. We are unable to accommodate any production filming at any Vista Health System facility.
