Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a program designed for people who need treatment for the following:

  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • Emphysema
  • Chronic bronchitis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Asthma
  • Before or after lung surgery
  • Any chronic respiratory problem

Pulmonary rehabilitation can help improve your quality of life. It consists of two components: exercise and education. Individualized exercise programs are set up for each patient to help strengthen muscles and gain energy. Education classes (Phase II) are taught to help you understand and manage your lung condition.

  • Energy conservation
  • Risk factors
  • Pulmonary medications
  • Clearing airways
  • Coping with a chronic illness
  • Nutrition
  • Disease education

Your Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team

The Vista Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team works with your independent primary care physician and pulmonologist to provide an individualized program for you. The team consists of:

  • Respiratory therapists
  • Registered nurses
  • Exercise physiologists
  • Chaplains
  • Dietitians

Two Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs Available at Vista

Phase II

Phase II Pulmonary Rehab provides monitored exercise sessions three times a week for 10 weeks. During these sessions, your heart rate, blood pressure and oxygen saturation are monitored by healthcare professionals. Educational programs help you and your family members gain a better understanding, confidence and the skills needed to manage the disease on a long-term basis.

Phase III (Maintenance)

Phase III Pulmonary Rehab provides a medically supervised program for patients who choose to continue their cardiopulmonary conditioning to maintain their functional level. Aerobic and resistance training exercises are available. The program is supervised by an exercise physiologist, respiratory therapist or RN who provides ongoing education and support. Phase III is a self-pay program requiring physician approval.
